Our Philosophy

At our heart is the Youth

The Youth are at the heart of Tsë lhts’ënc’il nec’igekh be yikh, a project driven by the community. Right from the start, the voices of our youth shaped its design and function.

A Connection to Culture

Addiction often stems from trauma and disconnection, Tsë lhts’ënc’il nec’igekh be yikh aims to reunite youth with their families, their community, and the land. It's about bringing them back home, where healing truly begins.

“I just really believe that this will bring a lot of light to that darkness and we'll find a way in our own way.”

-Witset Youth

Working Through it Together

Community members will have access to different opportunities to aid and participate in our healing programs. By uniting as a community, the hope is that we heal together.

It's through the resilience and fortitude of our ancestors, that we've reached a point where we can openly discuss trauma and take the lead in shaping this healing

Our communities have endured immense grief and trauma, leading to profound pain. We witness many community members navigating dark paths, and struggling with mental health and addiction issues.

“Our problem is right here in our homes. And when we negate that, we shut the door. That's not opening our hearts and minds to the real issue here and that's trauma.”

- Witset Youth

Tsë lhts’ënc’il nec’igekh be yikh’s focus is on uniting the community as a whole, emphasizing mental health support, and addressing addiction concerns. Central to this effort is reconnecting with our culture, fostering a sense of belonging and strength. It's a place where the youth can gain insight into a healthy home and life. We offer a fresh perspective and renewed hope, addressing the realities many face. Tsë lhts’ënc’il nec’igekh be yikh gives access to stability, life skills, and a healthy lifestyle.

As the late Keleset would say “We're not doing this for ourselves, it's for the next generation.”

This isn't just about the present moment; it's about the next generation. The shadows of trauma that lead to substance abuse or violence serve as reminders. The planning of Tsë lhts’ënc’il nec’igekh be yikh emphasized the importance of addressing grief, loss, and intergenerational trauma, all with an eye toward the future. We recognize the challenges our community faces, but we're hopeful for brighter days ahead, especially for our children.

“It’s every generation’s responsibility to make a place better than they left it.”

- Witset Youth

“There's a sense of hope that this could bring a glimmer of light and healing to, if not our generation, the next one.”

- Witset Youth
